Hyderabad: A video is being virally circulated on WhatsApp groups that shows people frantically looting as many yoga mats as they can after Yoga Day celebrations in Rohtak, Haryana. The video has been doing rounds where people are claiming that this occurred on Yoga Day in 2021.

Another video posted on YouTube recently gives an account about the same incident in Haryana.

Fact Check:

The circulated video is misleading as the incident did not happen in 2021 but in 2019.

NewsMeter searched the key frames of the video and found a similar video posted by Aaj Tak two years ago. The Aaj Tak coverage was a part of the viral video.

We have also come across several YouTube channels that reported about the same event.

(ANI News)

(TV 9 Bharatvarsh)

(TLJ the local journalist)

We also found related articles of the event.

The article mentioned that a commotion broke out in Rohtak after people started looted yoga mats. They picked up fights with each other to get their hands on yoga mats at the venue. This was after Union home minister Amit Shah and Haryana chief minister M.L. Khattar had participated in the programme for International Day of Yoga earlier at the same venue in 2019.

We have also found an article by Times Now which reported the same.

Hence, it is misleading to claim that the video happened during 2021 Yoga Day celebrations as it took place in 2019.
