Hyderabad: Pictures of a scuffle are going viral on social media. It has been claimed that Amroha BJP MLA has been assaulted by women and his clothes have also been torn during the scuffle.

In this post, the collage of viral pictures is shared along with a caption: "In Uttar Pradesh, there is news of a BJP MLA from Amroha being beaten up by women with shoes and sticks!"

Fact Check

The claim that the BJP MLA was beaten up by women is False.

From the official website of the UP Legislative Assembly, we came to know that the present MLA representing Amroha Assembly is Mehboob Ali of Samajwadi Party (SP). However, BJP MLAs from the other three assembly constituencies including Hasanpur, Dhanaura, and Naugaon Sadat are Mahendra Singh Khargvanshi, Rajiv Tarara, and Sangeeta Chauhan respectively.

We did not find any picture similar to that of the person on the viral pictures.

We also found reports by The Lallantop.com, The Voice Hindi News and a YouTube video by News18 India.

"These pictures are of Amroha district headquarters of Uttar Pradesh. The name of the man seen in these is Madan Verma. We spoke to Madan Verma. He said that he is neither a BJP MLA nor is he holding any post of the organization. Earlier, he was the convener of the West Uttar Pradesh Labor Cell of the BJP. At present, he is the chairman of the cooperative society Paloula," read the report by The Lallantop.com.

The incident had actually taken place as the women accused Madan Verma of favoring ration dealers in front of ministers. He was also accused of asking for money to get the card issued. When Madan started denying these allegations, the women surrounded him and beat him, due to which his kurta got torn.

In response to the evidence, Madan Verma said: "Women gathered outside the meeting to get the ration card made. When she was told that the ration card would not be made here, she started creating a ruckus. To pacify them, I went in their midst. But there someone made a ruckus due to which my kurta got torn. Someone took a photo and put it on social media. This whole matter is a conspiracy of the opposition."

Evidently, the claim made in the viral post is False. Pictures are old and the person featuring in them is not a BJP MLA.
