FACT CHECK: Matrimonial ad for fully vaccinated groom is fake

HYDERABAD: A matrimonial ad looking for fully vaccinated Roman Catholic groom is viral on social media.

Netizens are questioning the ad as if this is the new-normal (life after the Covid pandemic)

Recently, this ad was also posted by Shashi Tharoor with the question, "Is this going to be our New Normal?" The tweet garnered over 13.2k likes. (archive)

FACT CHECK:

This matrimonial advertisement is fake.

We checked the comments section of Shashi Tharoor's tweet and found that many users had posted similar-looking ads with different texts. This indicates that the viral image was created with the help of an online tool. It looks like a newspaper clipping.

A Twitter user named, "Right Wing Adda" was one of the Twitter users who called out that the advertisement was fake. They used the same app and made a similar news clipping

NewsMeter then searched online for such a tool and found a newspaper clipping generator tool called 'Fodey.com'. This website generates newspaper clippings where users can enter the name of the newspaper, date, headline, and story. It creates a newspaper clipping that matches the viral image. NewsMeter generated their own clipping too and noticed the similarities in the page color, font style, size, and dateline, etc.

The only catch here is that the website only changes the first two columns in the template. The text in the third column that is partially visible is always the same. This clearly shows that the viral ad was a product of this website.

Evidently, the viral ad is fake and is a result of an online newspaper clipping generator tool.
