Hyderabad: A photo of the president of the youth wing of Aam Aadmi Party, Punjab, and singer Gagandeep Kaur Maan also known as Anmol Gagan Maan holding a cigarette has gone viral on social media.
The photo was shared with the caption, "Even those who cannot open their eyes without smoking beedi call the Constitution bad." (translated)
The viral picture is a hoax.
NewsMeter performed a Google reverse image search that led us to a Twitter fan page of the singer. It had posted a collage of two photos, including the viral image, on 19 July 2018.
We also found the collage on the singer's official Instagram account posted on 18 July 2020.
We compared the original image with the viral image.
Since the caption mentioned the Constitution, we tried to find reports related to Anmol Gagan Mann and the Constitution.
A few days ago Anmol Gagan Mann had said in an interview that the Constitution needs to be amended. A party that reneges on its promises should be legally de-recognized and a leader who does not work for the people should be removed from his post, the singer had said.
According to a report by Factnews, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state president Jasvir Singh Garhi had alleged that after Congress, BJP, and SAD (Sanyukat), the anti-Dalit and anti-backward class mentality of the Aam Aadmi Party has also been exposed.
Garhi had said in a statement that Aam Aadmi Party was an apologetic party whose leader Arvind Kejriwal and the entire party have apologized about calling Punjabis addicts and Udta Punjab.
"Today, brave Punjabis have created problems for Delhi and the Central government in the name of farmers' movement. Now AAP's state-level bigoted leader Anmol Gagan Mann has violated the fundamental duties of the citizens of the country enshrined in Article 51A of the Constitution by using wrong words about the Constitution of India. A case of sedition should be registered against Anmol Gagan Mann who speaks against the Constitution of the country," Garhi had said.
Anmol Gagan Mann had apologized for her statement in an interview to Jagbani and said that some political leaders are trying to gain political advantage by misrepresenting her statement.
It is evident that the viral image is a hoax as a photo of the AAP youth wing president and Punjabi singer has been morphed. The viral image is old and is now being circulated in connection with the singer's statement about the Constitution.
