Hyderabad: A message is being widely shared on WhatsApp claiming that a youth was killed in Karnataka for not speaking Urdu.
The viral message, in Hindi, can be translated as, "Shahid and his associates murdered a youth named Chandru for not speaking Urdu in Karnataka. Shahid and his companions were captured on CCTV."
Fact Check
The claim is false.
NewsMeter performed a keyword search that led us to a report published by The Hindu on 5 April 2022. The report was titled "Youth killed over road rage."
It read, "A 22-year-old youth was allegedly stabbed to death over road rage in J.J. Nagar police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Chandru, a resident of Jaimaruthinagar. According to the police, Chandru along with his friend, went out around 2.30 a.m. to have a snack. While riding on Haleguddadahalli, their bike touched another bike rider. Heated arguments ensued, which took an ugly turn when the accused bike rider attacked Chandru with a knife and sped away. The severely injured Chandru was rushed to hospital where he succumbed later."
Navbharat Times had also reported the incident on 6 April 2022. It said on the night of 4 April, Chandru was returning home with his friends when he collided with Shahid's bike. As the dispute escalated, Shahid along with two friends attacked Chandru with a knife. Chandru died while he was being treated at the Victoria Hospital. The Bangalore police cited road rage as the reason for the murder of the youth.
The Bengaluru City commissioner of police had also tweeted about the incident.
Hence, it is evident that the claim made through the viral post is false. A youth killed in a road rage incident is being falsely shared with a communal angle.
