Hyderabad: A video allegedly showing a Muslim man pouring water taken from a drainage in a pot full of steaming yellow rice and what looks like meat chunks has been circulating on social media. Users sharing the video claim that it shows a Muslim man cooking Biryani using drainage water.
Sharing the video, an X user wrote, “It is a very eye-opening incident for those who are fond of eating delicious biryani in Muslim hotels. Special arrangements for cleanliness will definitely be found in their hotels. Whether it is the biggest hotels or the biryani carts set up on the streets. Only those who go to these hotels to eat biryani in the pursuit of brotherhood can tell whether adding pure water in this way really enhances the taste or if it’s just an illusion.” (Translated from Hindi)
NewsMeter found that the claim is false, as the video has been generated using AI.
We noticed several comments (links here and here) on the post suggesting the video appeared to be AI-generated. This prompted us to examine the video more closely and look for inconsistencies.
Are there inconsistencies in the video?
Upon closer examination, we identified several irregularities: people standing completely motionless like statues, a man wearing a green shirt whose legs appeared anatomically distorted and faces throughout the footage that lacked clear definition.
What are the results of AI-detection tools?
Hive Moderation found that the video is likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content with a confidence score of 89.2 per cent. Five detectors of Deepfake-O-Meter found that the video is likely AI-generated with the confidence scores of 100, 98.3, 100, 99.8 and 91.2 per cent, respectively.
Therefore, we conclude that the video is AI-generated and the claim is false.
