Fact:The claim is false. The viral video is from the Charmonai Mahfil program in the Barisal District of Bangladesh.

Hyderabad: A video showing a large gathering of men in skull caps is circulating on social media with the claim that it is from Assam.

In the video, we can see a huge gathering of men wearing skull caps, chanting ‘Allah’. Sharing this video on X, a user wrote that it is from Hojai of Assam. (Archive)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The video is from Bangladesh.

Using reverse image search of the video keyframes, we found the same footage uploaded to Facebook on November 27 by user Ruhin Quazi.

The caption reads, “The great remembrance of Allah fills the air. The Charmonai Mahfil, Agrahayan 2025. Let the hearts awaken, let faith be renewed. #fbpost2025 #charmonai_mahfil” (Translated from Bengali)

Speaking to NewsMeter, Ruhin Quazi said that he shot the video on November 27. “This video is from a religious program in Charmonai, Barisal, Bangladesh,” he added.

Keyword searches led us to images posted by Jamia Talimia Madrasa Dhaka on the same day on their Facebook page. The post shows images from the same gathering. A comparison of both images can be seen below.

We also found several news reports about the Charmonai Mahfil published by Bangladesh news websites like Dainik Ajker Bangla, The Country Today, Amader Barisal and Priyo Chandpur.

What is Charmonai Mahfil?

According to reports, Charmonai Mahfil is a large, traditional and annual religious gathering held at Charmonai Darbar Sharif in Barisal District, Bangladesh.

It is mainly organised for the purpose of self-purification and spiritual enlightenment. It is attended by thousands of people from home and abroad. It is held twice a year, during Agrahayan (mid-November to mid-December) and Falgun (mid-February to mid-March) in the Bengali calendar.

It is clear that the viral video is from the Charmonai Mahfil program in the Barisal District of Bangladesh. Therefore, NewsMeter concludes that the viral claim is false.
