Hyderabad: A video claiming that Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said Andhra Pradesh has received more funds in the 2022-2023 budget due to Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy's efforts is going viral on Facebook.
The video claims that Ms. Sitharaman said Andhra Pradesh has succeeded due to Jagan's efforts and that more funds are being released to the state than the BJP states.
This video is circulating with the caption, "Thanks to the efforts of CM Jagan, AP has received more funds than BJP states - Nirmala Sitharaman."
Fact Check:
NewsMeter viewed the 2022-2023 budget presentation speech by Nirmala Sitharaman but did not find any mention of CM Jagan. We also checked online for news reports that could support the claim but found none.
NewsMeter noticed that the viral video is not from the 2022-23 budget presentation speech (view here). It is a clip from a video from December 2021 when Ms. Sitharaman was speaking about The Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amend) Bill 2021. But even in this video, Ms. Sitharaman did not talk about AP Chief Minister Jagan.
We searched for the original video using the tag 'Praja Chaithanyam' that can be seen in the viral video and found an extended version of the viral video on its YouTube channel. The video was titled, "FM Nirmala Sitharaman About CM Jagan Mohan Reddy at Union Budget 2022." The channel had also posted another video with a similar title. However, Ms. Sitharaman was not talking about Jagan in either of the videos.
It is clear that Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not say that Andhra Pradesh was allotted more funds in the 2022-2023 budget due to Chief Minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Reddy's efforts. The claim is false.
