Fact check: No, Anna Hazare has not joined BJP

HYDERABAD: A picture showing activist Anna Hazare with BJP President JP Nadda has been making rounds on social media. The viral picture comes with a claim that Anna Hazare has joined the ruling BJP party.
The image was shared with the caption that upon translation reads, "Joined the Bharatiya Janata Party today in the presence of Honorable Shri JP Nadda!".
This picture when shared on social media garnered over 1,343 retweets and 7,810 likes at the timing of writing this article.

FACT CHECK:
NewsMeter found that the claim is false and that the image has been morphed. The team at NewsMeter carried out a Google reverse image search and found a picture in a Navbharat Times story dated June 25, 2020, that shows Jyotiraditya Scindia instead of Anna Hazare.
Secondly, according to an Economic Times article, Scindia resigned from Congress on March 9, 2020, and joined the BJP on March 11, 2020. Further, there are no credible news reports about Hazare joining the BJP and the Twitter account, '@annahaare' ā whose watermark is on the viral image ā no longer exists.
Hence, the claim is false.
