Hyderabad: Following Telangana government's announcement of a state lockdown, several misleading messages have been circulating on WhatsApp regarding timings of shops, grocery stores, and supermarkets.

One such WhatsApp message claims that all shops will be open from 6 a.m to 1 p.m and all supermarkets and grocery stores will be open from 6 a.m to 6 p.m from 23 May. The message is reportedly from Shubh Labh News.

Fact Check:

This is FALSE. All shops and supermarkets are to be closed by 10 a.m till 30 May.

According to the government order 102, a complete lockdown has been announced in all parts of the state from 12 to 30 May. The lockdown will be relaxed between 6 a.m and 10 a.m. During these hours, all shops and establishments can stay open and citizens are free to move out of their homes. However, after 10 a.m, a complete lockdown will be imposed. The list of permitted activities during the lockdown hours does not mention opening of shops after 10 a.m.

Permitted activities in the state include medical services; agriculture and related operations; manufacturing activity relating to drugs and medical equipment; movement of medicine, oxygen, and vaccine; essential services like production and distribution of power, supply of drinking water, sanitation services in gram panchayats and urban local bodies; MGNREGA works; petrol pumps located on NHs; banks/ATMs, insurance services, and related activities; print and electronic media; supply chain and transport of essential commodities; all security services; e-commerce (delivery) of goods and merchandise; IT and IteS; movement and distribution of LPG cylinders; and construction and project activities. Furthermore, NewsMeter also checked the website of Shubh Labh and found no such report that mentions the new timings for shops, supermarkets, grocery stores.

Thus, it is clear that the claim is FAKE.
