Hyderabad: An image of a red dot is going viral on social media. Users claim people can check their eyesight through this red dot.
Users claim that the test has been designed by American ophthalmologists.
Fact Check
The claim is a hoax. There is no scientific evidence to back it.
Claim 1: NewsMeter firstly tried to contact the number mentioned on the image. The contact led us to Vishal Wani from Mumbai. He is the founder of Vishma Medical Coaching.
"Yes, we did share the post. However, we cannot compare it to medical research. At least we can have an idea about it. It is primarily true. It is like a screening test. If you're not able to see anything, you can consult a doctor," he said.
NewsMeter also found a similar post shared on Facebook in 2019 by Life Care Clinic, Haryana.
NewsMeter tried to connect with the number mentioned in the post. However, he declined to answer and later deleted the post.
Claim 2: Since the poster had also claimed that the test is designed by American ophthalmologists.
NewsMeter did not find any such report.
NewsMeter spoke to Dr. Vivek Dave, Retina Specialist, L V Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad to know more about the test. He said there is no scientific basis to it. Tests like these have been doing rounds on social media.
It is highly recommended not to believe such posts and consult an ophthalmologist.
Evidently the claim is misleading as there is no evidence to prove the authenticity of the test.
