Fact Check: No fire at Zainapora temple in Kashmir, viral video shared with false claim

Hyderabad: A video reportedly showing a fire at a temple in Zainapora in Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, is being widely shared on social media. It is being claimed that some unidentified people set the temple on fire.

A Twitter user shared the video and wrote, "Tempel situated at zainpora shopian burnt by some unknown person (sic)."

The video was shared on Facebook with the same claim.

Fact Check

The claim is false.

NewsMeter performed a Google reverse image search which led us to a report by kashmirlife.net from 7 October 2021. A screengrab from the viral video was published along with the report. It said several houses were burned down after a massive fire broke out in Parimpora on the outskirts of Srinagar.

We also found the original videos of the incident on YouTube channels The Earth News and Punjab Kesari TV. The description of both the videos said the fire broke out in the Parimpora area adjacent to the fruit market in Srinagar. Many residential houses were burnt, they said.

Further, IB Times has debunked the viral claim earlier. It said the Kashmiri Pandit Sangaresh Samithi (KPSS) had confirmed that the viral claims about a fire at Zainapora temple are false.

It is evident that the claim made through the viral post is false. A video of a fire in Parampora is being shared as a fire outbreak at Zainapora temple in Kashmir.
