Fact check: No Holi celebration at Atal Tunnel, fireworks are from Saudi Arabia

HYDERABAD: A video of fireworks and colorful smoke around a building is viral on social media. Netizens claim that this is the Holi celebration at Atal Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh.

A Facebook user shared the video with the caption: "HAPPY HAPPY HOLI. ATAL TUNNEL, ROHTANG, HIMACHAL PRADESH."

NewsMeter found that the claim is false as the video is from Saudi Arabia and is on the Internet since 2018.

FACT CHECK:

We performed a reverse image search and found a YouTube video with the caption: "Colorful Fireworks at The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture Khobar".

Using this information, we searched online with relevant keywords and found a tweet by the Saudi Ambassador to the United Nations, Abdullah bin Khalid bin Sultan. He tweeted the same video in 2018 and captioned it: "Beautiful daytime fireworks show @Ithra in Dhahran".

This video was shot in 2018 at The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra)in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. According to many websites, King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture, Ithra, launched their most monumental initiative on October 11, 2018, under the title "Tanween, Ithra Creativity Season. The Creativity Season lasted for 17 days until the 27th of October 2018 with the aim of creating positive change in the artistic and creative community".

We also compared the building in the viral video to Ithra and found that these were the same.

Therefore, it is evident that the viral video of the fireworks is from King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Saudi Arabia. It has no connection with Holi.
