Fact Check: NYT piece asking teachers to support bullying of unvaccinated children is fake

Hyderabad: A screenshot of a New York Times (NYT) opinion piece titled "Teachers Should Tolerate Bullying Towards Unvaccinated Children" is going viral on social media.

The sub-headline reads, "As heartless as it may sound, it may be the only way to encourage parents to make the right choice."

Fact Check:

NYT did not publish such a report.

We did not find the article on the New York Times website nor did we find any reports on the issue.

The viral image is fake. While the text in the viral image matches the style and format of NYT opinion articles, the word "Opinion" in the viral image is written in black and only the first letter is capitalized when in fact, NYT website writes the word in red and all letters are capitalized.

The New York Times has also refuted the viral post and said that the image is digitally altered. "From @ReutersFacts: "Image purporting to show New York Times opinion piece calling for teachers to 'tolerate bullying towards unvaccinated children' is digitally altered"," it had tweeted.

It is clear that the post is fake.
