Fact Check

The claim is False.

NewsMeter began its investigation by performing a Google Reverse Image Search which led us to a report published on the website of News18 on April 26, 2019. The report was titled 'Narendra Modi's mega roadshow in Varanasi.'

The report had published various images of the roadshow including the viral picture. In the roadshow, Modi was accompanied by various party leaders including Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah, and Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath.

A report by India TV had also published a report on the roadshow, which also included the viral image. The image was also shared with a caption that read 'PM Modi during his roadshow in Varanasi'.

"PM Modi began his roadshow by paying tribute to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya at his statue outside Banaras Hindu University. The roadshow held throughout 6 km started at Lanka and concluded at the famed Dashashwamedh Ghat. PM Narendra Modi along with Amit Shah and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended Ganga Aarti. Thousands of people thronged to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the roadshow," read the report by India TV.

The team also found the entire video of the roadshow on the YouTube channel of 'Narendra Modi' on April 25, 2019. An image similar to the viral image can be seen at the time frame of 2:01:29 minutes. On watching the entire video, we can see that PM Modi first garlanded the statue of Madan Mohan Malviya at the BHU gate and then started the roadshow.
