HYDERABAD: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar recently commented on cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's 'India together' tweet.
This led to a flurry of tweets in support of Tendulkar. A video of Pawar being slapped became viral on social media with the false claim that it was a reaction to his comment against Tendulkar.

FACT CHECK:
NewsMeter found that the video is unrelated to the Tendulkar incident. The video dates back to 2011.
We noticed the logo of NDTV in the viral video and performed a search that led to a November 2011 NDTV YouTube video with the title: "Sharad Pawar slapped by youth in Delhi".
The description of the video reads: "Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has been slapped by a youth at the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) center in Delhi. The minister was attacked as he was leaving the premises after attending a literary function".
Several other organizations such as ABP NEWS, NEWS18 LOKMAT, ZEE NEWS and INDIA TV also covered this incident in 2011 and stated the attacker identified as Harvinder Singh. He was reportedly angry over the minister's inability to control price rise and had slapped him at the NDM Center in Delhi
Therefore the claim that Pawar was slapped in retaliation to Tendulkar's tweet is false.
