Fact Check: Old video of unruly drunk mob falsely linked to farmers protest

Hyderabad: A video of a person pouring alcohol from a bottle to an unruly mob has gone viral with a false claim that the people in the video are farmers involved in the ongoing farmers' protests.

On 6 February, farmers had blocked several key roads across states in a planned three-hour 'chakka jam'.

The video was shared with the caption, "Farmers protests. Free liquor distribution."

Arun Pudur, founder and group president of Celframe Corporation also shared this video on 7 February and few comments under the video claimed that it is linked to the farmers' bill protest.

Fact Check:

NewsMeter found that the viral video is not linked to the ongoing farmers' protest as the video has been available on the internet since April 2020.

We performed a reverse image search and found the same video on a Facebook post dated April 2020.

Although we could not independently verify what the incident is about, it is evident that the clip is not related to the ongoing farmers' protests as it has been available since April 2020, much before the protest began.

Hence, the claim is false.
