The news stated that women in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh had gathered in long queues in front of a branch of Bank of Baroda in order to withdraw the amount credited by the Centre to their Jan Dhan account. The news by News18 had also stated that these women were falsely informed about the amount being credited will be taken over by the government which led them to rush to the branch.
The line was formed due to the government providing 5 kg extra foodgrains free to 800 million beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act over and above their regular quota in May and June 2021, according to Business Standard. A report by Dainik Jagran on April 09, 2020, had stated that the government had assured no amount will be debited from the Jan Dhan accounts.
