Hyderabad: The two-day BJP national executive meeting was held in Hyderabad this week and it was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other prominent party leaders. Following this, a video of men wearing BJP caps and scarves distributing alcohol has gone viral on social media.
Netizens claim that the video was taken during the PM's Hyderabad visit.
Former Lok Sabha MP Kirti Azad tweeted the video and wrote, "While PM Narendra Modi was giving a speech inside, BJP workers were enjoying wine and kebab in honor of India outside. This is the real face of their Hindu religion. It's not even worth ridiculing. The height of shame."
The video was also shared by lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan and Congress member Sudhir Kumar Pandey.
Fact Check
NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found that Uttar Pradesh Congress had tweeted the same video on 20 December 2021. Several Congress leaders had shared the video and claimed it was shot in Haridwar, Uttar Pradesh, before the rally of BJP leader J.P Nadda in December 2021.
Ten News uploaded the video on its YouTube channel on 22 December 2021with the title "BJP served Alcohol to attract crowd to JP Nadda's rally in Haridwar, alleges Youth Congress."
Several media organisations had also published the video but had not identified the location and the date of the original incident. NewsMeter could not verify the location.
It is clear that this video is not linked to the recent BJP national executive meeting held in Hyderabad, Telangana. An old video has been falsely linked to the BJP meet.
