Hyderabad: A photo of BSP supremo Mayawati and the Uttar Pradesh Governor, Anandiben Patel, has gone viral on social media with a claim that Mayawati met the Governor and requested the government to agree to the demands of the protesting farmers.

Fact Check:

The claim that Mayawati met Patel and requested the government to agree to the demands of the protesting farmers is FALSE. The photo is from 2019.

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found a report by Hindustan Times from December 2019. The controversial farm Bills that sparked the ongoing farmers' protests were passed in September 2020.

The photo caption on the HT report read, "BSP chief and former chief minister Mayawati met UP governor Anandiben Patel and urged her to talk firmly to the Adityanath government over rising crime against women in the state."

ANI also posted the same photo in 2019 and tweeted, "Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati met Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel in Raj Bhavan today, over cases of crime against women."

The photo was also published by News Nation TV and Patrika in December 2019. All these reports state that Mayawati appealed to Governor Patel to use her constitutional powers to tackle the rising crimes against women in the state.

From these reports it is clear thatthe photo of the two women is not related to the farmers' protest. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
