Hyderabad: An image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi presenting flowers to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is viral on social media.

NewsMeter performed Google reverse image search. Similar pictures were found in the reports published on many news websites. None of the pictures showed PM was carrying flowers.

The original image can be seen in the report published on India Today website on May 2, 2021. Prime Minister Narendra Modi can be seen extending his hand towards Mamata Banerjee. This image has also been used in the report published on 29 May 2021 on the website of Telegraph India.


This picture has been used as a file photo in both reports. We once again took the help of Google reverse image search to find the actual context.

In a search, we found this image in the report published on 23 January 2021 on India Today website. This picture was released by PTI. This photo was taken during an event organized at Victoria Memorial in Kolkata where PM Modi and Mamata Banerjee shared the stage.

According to the report, on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had gone to Kolkata on Saturday (23 January 2021) to pay tribute to Netaji. He addressed 'Parakram Divas' function to commemorate Bose's birth anniversary. It was during the same event that he met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Hence, it is evident that the claim is false. It is clear that the picture has been edited.
