Fact Check: PM Modis wife Jashodaben has not joined Congress

Hyderabad: A video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wife Jashodaben is being circulated on social media with the claim that she has joined Congress.

Fact Check:

The claim is false.

NewsMeter searched for any news related to the viral claim but found none.

We found a video on YouTube from January 2017 where Jashodaben was a special guest at an event in Rajasthan to mark the 50th anniversary of the Kian Mandir Committee. The video was uploaded by Rajasthan Patrika and the viral clipping can be seen around the 1:42-minute mark. Jashodaben performed the bhumi puja of a newly-constructed hostel during the ceremony held at the Kian Mandir school in Kota, Dakshina Kannada.

FWP India News had also uploaded a similar video on YouTube in August 2017.

According to a Times of India report published in 2017, Congress had wanted Jashodaben to contest the Gujarat Assembly elections but she had refused. She had also supported the PM's demonetization move.

Hence, the claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's wife Jashodaben has joined Congress is false. The viral video is from a 2017 event.
