Fact check: Purported letter from Amit Shah to Yogi Adityanath is FAKE

Hyderabad: An image of a letter purportedly written by Union Minister for Home Affairs to Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath commending his efforts to deal with the second wave of the pandemic is viral on social media.

Several Twitter users have also posted the image. The letter with the monogram of Amit Shah, addressed to Yogi Adityanath commends his efforts in handling the 2nd wave of the CovID-19 pandemic. It talks about the need to ensure the registration of people above the age of 18 for the COVID vaccine. Further, it says that this registration process is key for the 2022 elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Fact check:

The letter is FAKE.

Firstly, the letter is ridden with grammatical errors. Grammatical errors like "Now more efforts required" while the grammatically correct sentence would have been "Now more efforts are required". The capitalization of some words like "Mid" also points out lousy English. Lastly, random change in fonts, like in the second paragraph also certifies the same.

NewsMeter also performed a keyword search and found that no news agency or media has reported about the letter. There is no mention of a letter commending Yogi Adityanath's efforts nor is there any letter talking about the vaccine registration in relation to the upcoming UP elections in 2022.

Press Information Bureau has tweeted on June 7 confirmed that this letter is fake. It said no such letter has been sent from Amit Shah to Yogi Adityanath.

Hence, it is clear Amit Shah did not send any letter to UP CM. This letter is FAKE.
