Claim:The viral video shows visuals of Rajasthan farmers protesting to save the Aravalli Hills.
Fact:The claim is false. Both video clips are old and unrelated.
Hyderabad: Following the Supreme Court’s recent acceptance of the Union Environment Ministry’s definition of the Aravalli Hills, restricting the range to landforms with an elevation of more than 100 metres, has triggered protests across Rajasthan.
In this context, two video clips showing huge crowds are circulating on social media.
The first clip shows a large crowd gathered in an open area. The second shows a huge crowd slowly walking on a road.
These video clips were shared with claims that they show protests started by farmers in Rajasthan to save the Aravalli Hills. The text on the viral video reads, “A big Amount Of Famers in Rajasthan start A Aravalli hills Protest #saveAravallihills. (sic)”
Sharing the video on Instagram, a user wrote, “A wave of protests is sweeping North India after a Supreme Court ruling defined Aravalli hills as only those over 100 meters, potentially leaving 90% of the range vulnerable to mining. Environmentalists and citizens argue this is a "death warrant" for the ancient ecological barrier that stops desertification and cleans Delhi's air. The #SaveAravalli movement demands all hills be protected.” (Archive)
The viral video garnered over 6 million views with 5 lakh likes at the time of publishing.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the viral claim is false. Both video clips are unrelated and old.
Keyword searches yielded no news reports linking the visuals to the protests by farmers in Rajasthan to save the Aravalli Hills. This hints that the clips are not related to the recent developments about the mountain range.
We analysed each clip to find the sources.
Video clip 1
Using reverse image search of the video’s key frames, we found the same video shared on Instagram on August 2. The caption states, “Gajanan Maharaj’s palanquin leaves towards Shegaon from Khamgaon city”.
Comparison of screenshots from the first video clip and the Instagram video can be found below.
The video was shared by a user called ‘divyavarhad_’.
A link to a YouTube channel was shared in the Instagram bio. In the channel, we found a longer video including drone footage uploaded on July 31. The title reads, ‘Lakhs of devotees march with the palanquin, Shri’s palanquin returns home..#divyavarhad #shegaon.’
An ABP Live report published on July 30 stated that the rally marked the last stop of Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj’s Palanquin at Khamgaon before returning to Shegaon the next day.
The palanquin had left Shegaon on June 2. This tradition has been going on since 1968.
It is clear that the first video clip shows a huge crowd rallying with Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj’s Palanquin from Khamgaon to Shegaon, Maharashtra.
Video clip 2
A reverse image search of the video’s keyframes led us to the same footage shared on Instagram on June 23. The Hindi text overlaid on the video loosely translates to, “See, when Mathur goes out, the public follows. This is love for Mathur 1001.”
The viral video was also uploaded to YouTube on July 9, captioned, “RECORD BREAK PUBLIC # viral #animals #bull #maharashtra”
Comparison of screenshots from the second video clip and the YouTube video can be found below.
Another Instagram account shared the video with the caption, “Pedgaon Hindkesari Ground 2025. Mathur 1001, the heartbeat of millions of hearts”.
According to the website, Bailgada Premi, Mathur 1001 is a distinguished Khillar Mysore crossbreed owned by Rahul Patil of Adwali, Kalyan. Known as ‘The Unrivalled King,’ Mathur has established himself as a champion racer, securing victories in prestigious competitions including the Bharat Kesari and Maharashtra Kesari races.
What is the bullock race about?
Pedgaon, Maharashtra, served as the host venue for the Hind Kesari Bullock Cart races in 2025. Google Maps features a collection of images and videos documenting these traditional bullock cart competitions.
Notably, a video uploaded in June 2023 displays an identical background to that seen in the viral video, providing visual confirmation of the location’s consistency as a racing venue.
It is clear that the second video clip shows Hind Kesari Bullock Cart Races taking place in Pedgaon.
Therefore, NewsMeter concludes that the viral claims are false. Both clips from the viral video are from old and unrelated events; they do not show Rajasthan farmers protesting to save the Aravalli Hills.
