Hyderabad: A screengrab of a news bulletin that quotes former Samajwadi Party MLA Shivpal Singh Yadav as saying "If Akhilesh Yadav asks for blood, I will give it to him" is doing the rounds of social media. The image has the ABP News logo.
It is being claimed that Shivpal Yadav made the statement after meeting Akhilesh and that the two have reconciled.
Fact Check:
The claim is false.
NewsMeter performed a keyword search which led us to a BBC Hindi report from 5 November 2016.
According to the report, during a programme in Lucknow, Shivpal Yadav had said, "I want to tell Akhilesh Yadav that whatever sacrifice is asked, I will do it. Even if you ask for blood, then that will be given." This was a time when a rift was starting to appear between Akhilesh and Shivpal.
We also found a video report on ABP News' YouTube channel uploaded on 5 November 2016. The viral news bulletin appears at the 2:24-minute mark. Shivpal Yadav was giving a speech on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of the Samajwadi Party.
We compared a screenshot from the original video to the viral news bulletin and found that the two were similar.
According to a report published by The Indian Express on 17 December 2021, "Five years after a family feud led to their parting of ways, and formation of a new party Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav met uncle Shivpal Yadav at the latter's residence in Lucknow and announced that they will contest UP Assembly elections together."
It is therefore evident that the claim made through the viral post is false. The quote is from Shivpal Yadav's speech at the silver jubilee celebrations of the Samajwadi Party in 2016.
