Hyderabad: A picture of Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu is viral on social media. Sidhu can be seen carrying a photo of Indira Gandhi in his hands.

It is claimed that after becoming President of Punjab Congress, Sidhu was seen displaying a picture of Indira Gandhi at a public rally.

The post translated from the Punjabi language in English reads: "These Congressmen are going to bow down to Harmandir Sahib. Can anyone tell what message he is giving to the Sikhs by flashing this photo?"

The original claim: ਰਿਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਣ ਚੱਲੇ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਕਾਂਗਰਸੀ । ਆਹ ਫੋਟੋ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਰਾਹ ਚ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਦੇ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਕੋਈ ਦਸ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ?

The claim is False.

NewsMeter did a Google reverse image search and found a report published on India Today's website on July 20, 2021, which mentions Navjot Singh Sidhu holding a roadshow in Amritsar.

In the same report, we also found that picture, which is being edited. In the original picture, a picture of Shaheed Bhagat Singh is seen in Sidhu's hands, while in the viral picture it has been edited to replace with Indira Gandhi.

The difference between the original and the edited picture can be clearly seen in the frame shown below.


Further, we found the roadshow was live on July 20 from the verified and official page of Navjot Singh Sidhu.

In this live video of 32 minutes 31 seconds, in a frame of 11 minutes 10 seconds, a supporter can be seen reaching him with a picture of Bhagat Singh. He lifts the picture and waves it towards the crowd.



Many social media users have shared the correct picture from their profiles. Twitter user Mohammed Javed shared the correct picture from his profile

The original picture can be seen on the profiles of many other users, in which the picture of Shaheed Bhagat Singh is seen in Sidhu's hands.

Therefore, the viral claim is false. The image is morphed.
