Fact Check: SRKs Pathan: Old video of Yogi Adityanath shared as recent

Hyderabad: A video of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath is widely being shared on social media.

Users are claiming he reacted to calls for boycotting Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie. In the video, he can be seen talking about the film fraternity and Shah Rukh Khan.

Fact Check

The claim is False.

NewsMeter began its investigation by performing a keyword search. The search had led us to a video uploaded on the YouTube channel named 'ANI' on November 04, 2015.

"Gorakhpur, Nov 04 (ANI): As the hate storm against Shah Rukh Khan showed signs of subsiding, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday stoked controversy again saying there was absolutely no difference between the thinking of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Reacting to Hafiz Saeed's invitation to Khan to come and live in Pakistan, the BJP MP said he welcomed the invitation and hoped the actor will consider it. His controversial comment has been one of the many that have been directed towards Khan, who has been attacked by right-wing groups for his comments against intolerance," read the description of the video.

On further investigation, we found a report published by the Times of India on November 04, 2015, titled 'BJP MP Yogi Adityanath: No difference in the language of Shah Rukh Khan and Hafiz Saeed'.

The report further reads, "Bahusankhyak samaj ke dwara unki filmon ke dekhne ke karan hi woh mashoor hain (it is because the majority population watches his movies that he has become so famous). It is unfortunate that he too has joined the brigade that is hell-bent on proving that intolerance has increased. His statement amounts to treason," he said, adding it was a conspiracy to bring a bad name to the nation.

Adityanath also slammed writers and artists for returning their awards. "Under the garb of secularism, some writers and artists of leftist mindset have joined anti-national elements. They (writers and artists) are speaking the language of terror," the BJP MP said. "These voices are not anti-BJP but anti-national. Unfortunately, Shah Rukh Khan has also joined the brigade," Adityanath said.

A similar report was also published by the mainstream media including The Hindustan Times, The Hindu, Indian Express, and News 18.

Hence, it is evident that the claim is False. The viral video of UP CM Yogi Adityanath talking about the film fraternity and Shah Rukh Khan dates back to 2015.
