Fact Check

NewsMeter noticed that the text bubble was edited and added to the picture. It does not match the rest of the copy. Moreover, the date on the cover was hidden.

We searched for the previous editions of Thuglak and found the original cover that was from November 2020. The cartoon mocks Rajinikanth for starting his own party (read more here). It shows two donkeys standing next to a newspaper that reads, "Rajini to start party soon." One donkey says, "Come on, whether this is true or not, it will be ruled by someone from our congregation. We will not be hungry for food."

This proves that a Thuglak cartoon has been edited to mock BJP Tamil Nadu chief Annamalai for his statement about reading over 20,000 books. The viral image is fake.
