Hyderabad: A photo is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows a burning train that was torched by the Agnipath protestors at the Secunderabad railway station in Telangana.

NewsMeter received the claim on WhatsApp to verify it.

Fact Check

The claim is misleading.

NewsMeter conducted a Google reverse image search and found that India Today and IYC Telangana had used the same image in their reports about the Secunderabad protests.

ANI had also tweeted the images on 17 June and said, Agnipath protestors had set a train ablaze at the Luckeesarai Junction in Bihar's Lakhisarai district.

Other news agencies, including Bihar Tak, Times Now, The New Indian Express, and News 24, had carried similar images and visuals of the railway station in Bihar.

Violent protests had erupted at the Secunderabad railway station on 17 June as youth gathered to protest against the Centre's Agnipath recruitment scheme. There were reports of trains being torched and vandalized.

However, the photo that is being shared with the claim that it shows trains being torched at the Secunderabad station is from Bihar. Hence, the claim is misleading.
