Fact Check: Trump criticises PM Modi for ‘ingratitude’ in Truth Social post? No, it is satire
Claim:US President Trump expresses frustration over PM Modi not responding to his tweets, statements or tariff concerns.
Fact:The claim is false. The viral Truth Social post is a satire.

Hyderabad: On July 30, US President Donald Trump announced that India would face a 25 per cent tariff on imports starting August 1, along with an unspecified ‘penalty’ for its continued purchases of Russian military equipment and oil. While he described India as a ‘friend,’ he sharply criticised its high trade barriers and close ties with Russia, labelling both India and Russia as ‘dead economies.’

In what appeared to be a strategic jab at New Delhi, Trump also declared that the United States would help develop ‘massive oil reserves’ in Pakistan, adding that Pakistan might even sell the oil to India someday.

Meanwhile, a screenshot of a satirical post, falsely attributed to Trump, has been circulating on social media and is being shared as if it were real. The post purportedly states that Trump expressed frustration over PM Modi’s continued silence. It reads, “So hard to believe that Prime Minister Modi STILL hasn’t responded to my tweets, statements, or tariff concerns. We gave India so much — great deals, defence support, big crowds — and yet, TOTAL SILENCE. Not even a thank you!

“Don’t forget I’m the one who got India and Pakistan to declare a ceasefire. Nobody else could do that. MANY people said I should’ve gotten the Nobel Prize for it!! India continues to benefit while American workers suffer. I’ve always liked Modi, but this kind of disrespect will NOT be forgotten. Bad for business. Bad for friendship. #AmericaFirst”

BJP leader and former MP Tarun Vijay shared the screenshot while praising Prime Minister Modi, suggesting that he is standing firm against Trump’s bullying. He wrote, “For generations this post would remain an example of how @narendramodi’s firmness, Steel nerves, patriotism and unwavering commitment to serve Mother India - & his rock-like cool, calm demeanour has shaken them. #SardarNarendraModi.”

“Now he is behaving like a jilted lover and Modiji is giving him silent treatment ….,” wrote an X user who shared the screenshot.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false, as the post is a satire, fabricated in Trump's name. Trump has not made any such post on the platform Truth Social.

While many people are sharing the screenshot, they have failed to notice the watermark indicating it is satire, posted by the social media account Wokeflix. The image clearly includes the words ‘satire’ and ‘Wokeflix’ as a watermark.

Next, we found the same screenshot shared by the X account Wokeflix on August 1 with the same watermark, accompanied by a comical caption: “Disgruntled lover.” The account also criticised journalist Saba Naqvi for sharing the screenshot, describing her as irresponsible for publishing false or misleading content without proper verification.

The account describes itself as a ‘comedy writer’, with extreme right-leaning views. The construction of the word ‘Wokeflix’ itself suggests that the account mocks or parodies content related to left-leaning politics or woke culture.

Finally, we reviewed Donald Trump’s Truth Social account and found no such post. Also, no credible media outlet has reported the alleged statement. A public expression of such displeasure by the head of one nation toward another would almost certainly have been covered by reputable media outlets.

Therefore, we conclude that the viral post is a satire, fabricated in Trump's name.
