HYDERABAD: A purported tweet by BJP's Manoj Tiwari stating that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government wasn't ruling the country, the petrol prices would have touched Rs 200, has gone viral.
"If Modi Ji's government wasn't ruling the country, petrol would cost Rs 200 today: Manoj Tiwari, BJP leader," reads the tweet.
NewsMeter found that this statement was not made by Tiwari.
NewsMeter searched on twitter with the keywords, "मोदी जी की सरकार नहीं होती तो पेट्रोल का दाम आज 200 रुपये होता: मनोज तिवारी, बीजेपी नेता" and found a tweet by an account 'Dainik Khaskar' with the handle '@DainikKhaskar.
The text of the tweet reads the same message and its timestamp and dateline matched with the viral screenshot.
We noticed that the bio of 'Dainik Khaskar's' Twitter account reads: "Welcome to the official page of Dainik Khaskar. 100% fake news. Parody. Tweets are for fun only. (sic)" This means that the viral screenshot was taken from a parody account and falsely attributed to Tiwari.
This parody account tweets on various politicians, celebrities and social issues and has been active since June 2011 and follows no account.
Evidently, a tweet shared by a parody Twitter account was falsely attributed to Manoj Tiwari.
