Hyderabad: A video circulating on social media claims to show Israeli soldiers dying in a mine explosion. In the video, three soldiers can be seen as a mine explodes, throwing one soldier away, injuring another, while the third runs away.

The month-long war between the US, Israel and Iran-backed forces is intensifying.

The clip was circulated on social media in this context. One user posted the video on X and wrote, “The Zionist media, a machine of lies and propaganda, won’t show it, but let us tell the truth: Zionist Israeli soldiers sent to their promised hell as a result of a mine planted by Hezbollah.” (Archive)

Fact Check

NewsMeter found that the claim is false. The video dates to 2024 and shows Russian soldiers clearing mines during the Russia-Ukraine war.

Analysis of the video

A reverse image search on the keyframes of the viral video revealed that the clip originally surfaced online in 2024.

A handle named ‘Clash Report’ posted the same video on X on April 25, 2024, and wrote, “Russian soldiers are clearing mines, but it doesn’t turn out well.” The caption suggests that Russian soldiers were clearing ground mines when one of the mines exploded and injured the soldiers

We found the screenshots of the video featured in a news report published by a Czech Republic-based media outlet, CNN Prima News, on April 27, 2020. The report stated that the Russian soldiers were clearing anti-tank mines when a mine exploded, in flames and injured two.

The report further read that it was not clear if the Russian soldiers were clearing their own mines or Ukrainian mines.

The video in question is from the war between Russia and Ukraine and was captured a year before the US-Iran war started.

Therefore, we conclude that the claim is false.

The Russia-Ukraine war

The Russia-Ukraine war remains ongoing with heavy fighting and no major breakthrough since it started in 2022. Russia is continuing offensives in eastern Ukraine, while Ukraine is resisting using drones and counterattacks.

According to a report by Reuters dated March 25, Ukraine aims to repel Russia’s new spring offensive amid stalled US-backed peace talks using recent tactical gains and mid-range strikes. The focus is on the heavily defended “Fortress Belt” in eastern Donetsk, which Russia wants Kyiv to give up for peace.
