By Newsmeter Network Published on 25 April 2021 5:44 AM GMTHyderabad: Several news reports and tweets claim that people above the age of 18 can register for the COVID 19 vaccine from April 24. The viral claim states that registrations for the vaccine on the Cowin portal will open for all above 18 years of age and that registrations start from April 24.
This is not true. Vaccine registration will start on the CoWIN platform and Aarogya Setu App from April 28 onwards.
FACT CHECK:
We checked online for news reports and found several media houses that reported on the vaccine registration for people above 18 years. The Central government announced that the Covid-19 vaccination will be open for all above 18 years and that phase 3 of the Covid-19 vaccination will start on May 1, 2021. The registration for the age groups of 18+ will begin on April 28. (Click here to read the reports).
The same was also tweeted by the official government-citizen engagement platform, @MyGovIndia. "The registrations will start on the #CoWIN platform and Aarogya Setu App from 28th April 2021 onwards".
Further, the Press Information Bureau Fact check team also debunked the viral fake claim and states, "Some media reports have claimed that people above 18 can register for #COVID19 Vaccine from 24th April. The claim is #FAKE. The registrations will start on the #CoWIN platform and Aarogya Setu App from 28th April 2021 onwards".
Don't get misguided by rumours/news stating that registration for vaccination of 18+ citizens to start from 24th April 2021! The registrations will start on the #CoWIN platform and Aarogya Setu App from 28th April 2021 onwards. Stay informed, stay safe! #IndiaFightsCorona pic.twitter.com/i2SwCyRgFY

Like the first and the second phase, the registration would be done through the "cowin.gov.in" and Aarogya Setu mobile app. But unlike phase 1 and phase 2, where walk-ins were allowed, in this phase, there will be no walk-in registration.
Hence, it is clear that vaccine registration for 18+ starts from April 28 and not April 24.
