Fact Check:

The claim is false.

NewsMeter extracted keyframes of the video and ran a reverse image search. We found that the same video was uploaded on ETV Bharat English's Facebook page on 27 April 2021. This proves that the video is old and not linked to the recent Tripura violence. The caption read, "A video of the Rowdy sheeter assassination in Bangalore's Ashoka Nagar area."

Taking a cue from this, we ran a keyword search and found several reports in English and Kannada about the murder of Ravi Verma alias Appu on 20 April.

On 26 April, ETV Kannada had reported, "A rowdy-sheeter Dinesh and a gang killed criminal Ravi Verma alias Appu, 30, in Vivek Nagar, on Tuesday (April 20, 2021). Ravi Verma was released from jail just two weeks ago. At about 9 pm on Tuesday night, he went to a shop in Fatima Galli in Rose Garden, near his house. He was attacked with deadly weapons and murdered in a horrific way. Six people were arrested by the police on 24 April in connection with the case. A police officer said, the assailants stabbed him multiple times while he was just a few yards away from his house, and escaped."

Other media outlets like The Hindu, New Indian Express, TV9 Kannada, and Vijayvani had also reported the incident.

Hence, the claim that the video shows a Muslim man being attacked during the recent Tripura violence is false. The video shows a criminal being hacked to death in Bengaluru.
