Fact Check: Video of brawl in Brazil passed off as altercation in France

Hyderabad: A CCTV footage of a man beating up two persons is viral on social media. Users claim that it is a video of a Muslim man fighting back two men in France.

A YouTube channel posted this video with the title, "Assault on an Egyptian in Kuwait, but the Egyptian scourged them".

The video was shared with the same claim on Facebook and on blogs with the caption, "Two French men attacked a Muslim in France, thinking he is alone and will be unable to fight back. Watch the video to know how the Muslim man fought back".

FACT CHECK:

The claim that a Muslim man was fighting two French men in France is false.

NewsMeter performed a reverse image search and found a newsreport that carried a screenshot of the same video. The fight reportedly took place on October 12. One of the men (in black vest) was identified as Rafael Junior da Costa Vieira, also known as Jackie Chan. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The same was also stated by a Brazillian newspaper Estado DeMinas. It states that the fight took place in a restaurant in Ouro Branco, in the Central Region of Minas Gerais (an inland state in southeastern Brazil).

A longer version of the clip was found on a Brazil-based news portal's YouTube handle that shows Vieira holding the gun and pointing it towards a man.

Therefore, it is clear that a video from Brazil was shared with the false claim that it is from France.
