Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall has left many areas in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu flooded and waterlogged. In Andhra Pradesh, the death toll due to the rains stood at 34 as of 22 November, according to a report by India Today.

India Ahead News tweeted a video of cattle being washed away and claimed the video is from the recent floods in Andhra Pradesh. The video had more than 1k views.

A similar video was also shared on the YouTube channel APN News on 20 November with the title "Watch: Animals Swept Away In Flood Water At Andhra Pradesh; Many lost Lives Due To Heavy Rainfall".

Fact Check

The claim is false.

NewsMeter ran a Google reverse image search and found a video uploaded by the YouTube channel Efrain Grande Tepic on 28 July 2020. The description of the video identified the place as Las Varas, Compostela where Hurricane Hanna caused river Conchal to overflow and sweep away cattle.

The video was also aired on another YouTube channel, Imagen Noticias. The visuals shared by India Ahead News appear at the 0:02 second-mark.

Brazil-based Conexão GeoClima had on 28 July 2020 tweeted a similar video but taken from a different angle.

A report by La Teja from 7 August 2020 carried a screenshot of the same video. It said the images were from a flood that occurred on 28 July in the Zacualpan river in Nayarit after the passage of Hurricane Hanna which hit Mexico and the United States.

It is therefore evident that the claim made through the viral post is false. The viral video of cows being washed away by floodwaters has nothing to do with the recent heavy downpour in Andhra Pradesh. The viral video is from 2020 Mexico.
