Fact Check: Video of Delhi tableau at Republic Day parade shared with false communal spin

Hyderabad: India celebrated its 72nd Republic Day on 26 January. The Republic Day Parade this year was a smaller affair due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 vaccine tableau of the department of biotechnology, the newly-formed UT Ladakh's first tableau, and the Indian Air Force's tableau featuring one of the first three women pilots of the country were among the tableaus that stole the show.

Amidst this, a video of the Delhi tableau at the Republic Day Parade is being shared with a false claim that it only played the Azaan.

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut shared the video that had been posted by another Twitter user. Delhi is neither secular nor tolerant, tweeted the actor. (archive)

We searched online for the complete coverage of the Republic Day Parade and found the extended version on DD National's official YouTube channel. The tableau displayed the redevelopment of Chandni Chowk in Delhi's Shahjahanabad. The three levels of the tableau portrayed various cultures of old Delhi and had replicas of the Red Fort and historic places of worship like Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir, Gauri Shankar Mandir, Central Baptist Church, Gurudwara Sis Ganj, and Fatehpuri Masjid.

We also found the footage of the parade by various news channels. We can hear prayers of different religions played during the showcase.

A clipped video of the Delhi tableau at this year's Republic Day parade was shared with a false claim that only the Azaan was played. Hence, the claim is FALSE.
