HYDERABAD: A video showing a lady in a blue Kurti beating a police officer with slippers is viral on social media. Users claim that it took place in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly after cops issued a challan.

"Bareilly Civil Lines news... Muslims beat police over issuing of challan, which is a challenge to the law. This video shows what will happen in India, who will run the country, what will be the future of everyone? The truth is that the country faces more danger from inside than outside," read the claim. Journalist Madhu Kishwar also tweeted with a false claim. (Archive)

FACT CHECK:

NewsMeter found it is an old incident that took place in 2018 in Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh)

We conducted a reverse image search and found a recent tweet with the viral claim. The official Twitter handle of Bareilly Police replied to the tweet and stated that the video is from Ghaziabad. The tweet reads:" In order to examine the said video, the video is about two years old, which belongs to Ghaziabad district. In which action has been taken by Ghaziabad Police".

We then searched on Google and found that news channel Aaj Tak had reported about the incident in August 2018. The caption reads: "In Ghaziabad, a woman and some spectacles beat the policeman fiercely. Slaps, kick-punched slippers were slapped on the policemen".

The same was reported by TIMES OF INDIA, INDIA.COM, and OUTLOOK INDIA.

The incident took place in Balram Nagar on the Loni border, Ghaziabad at a State Bank of India branch.

A police constable posted at the bank was beaten up by relatives of a customer over some corrections in an Aadhar card. The customer is identified as Imran, he was asked to produce a token for Aadhar enrollment. When the concerned official denied, it led to an argument.

The policeman, along with a bank security guard, evicted him from the premises. Imran called his family members and when the argument went further, the constable allegedly slapped Imran. Following this, Imran's sister beat the constable with slippers

Evidently, it is clear that the claim of this incident taking place at Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly is false. It took place in Ghaziabad over Aadhar enrollment dispute.
