Fact Check: Viral Hindi Daily Dainik Bhaskar hoarding is photoshopped

Hyderabad: A purported hoarding of Hindi Daily Dainik Bhaskar hitting out at Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Uttar Pradesh and the Central Government is viral on social media.

"Neither a monk nor a lying saint. Only truth shall prevail, the news will not be suppressed nor stopped in UP (sic)," reads the English translation of the text.

"The 'oppressive government' tried to suppress the voice of 'Dainik Bhaskar'. What Dainik Bhaskar did is before you (sic)," reads the English translation of the post on Facebook

The image was shared after the Income Tax Department raided offices of the Dainik Bhasker Group for alleged tax evasion.

Fact Check:

The claim is False.

NewsMeter performed a reverse Google image search and found a Facebook post dated July 2021 that carried the same viral image. The caption of the post suggests that the image is not real.

Secondly, we searched on the internet with relevant keywords to find any such hoarding put up by Dainik Bhaskar but could not find any. But, we did find several similar images with similar captions targeting SP and BSP.

After that, we found news articles published in 2020 that carried the original image which could have been edited to create the viral image.

Here is the comparison of the viral image and the original image. As we can see, there are many similarities between the two images.


Hence, it is evident that the claim is false.
