HYDERABAD: A viral message on social media falsely claims that the Election Commission has announced dates for 2021 Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Election.
Several users shared the claim in Hindi, stating that the election in UP will be held in phases. Users said the first phase will be held on April 11 in Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Kairana, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and Meerut, Bijnor, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar districts.
NewsMeter found that the message is false. The 2019 Lok Sabha election schedule was passed off as dates for the Panchayat poll in UP.
FACT CHECK:
We searched online and found the exact same dates and locations for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. The schedule was given in a press release by the Election Commission of India. The tables below show that the dates and constituencies match those in the viral message.

We also checked the websites of the State Election Commission's website and Panchayati Raj Department and found no new reports or any announcement regarding the election schedule.

According to a notification dated February 5, the final publication of electoral rolls for the general public will take place on March 15. http://sec.up.nic.in/site/
The reservation list has been made public from March 2, 2021 and according to reports by Live Hindustan and News18 Hindi, the elections are likely to be held from April 10 to 23. However, the State Election Commission hasn't made a formal announcement yet.
Evidently, the election schedule of 2019 was used falsely to claim that the Election Commission announced the dates for the UP Panchayat poll.
