HYDERABAD: An edited image of activist Greta Thunberg eating on a train as a few impoverished kids looking through the window from the outside is viral on social media.
This image became viral after the Delhi Police arrested Bengaluru-based climate activist Disha Ravi for calling the protest 'toolkit' seditious. Several users shared the image on February 16 with the hashtag 'AskGretaWhy.'
FACT CHECK:
NewsMeter found that the viral image has been edited.
We performed a reverse image search and found a report by HANS INDIA from 2019 that carried the original image. Below is a comparison of the original and viral image.
The original image was also tweeted by Thunberg in January 2019, with the caption" Lunch in Denmark".
Next, we searched online for the image of the children in the background of the viral image and found an article that carried the same image. The image was taken near Bodouli village in 2007 by Reuters' photographer Stephanie Hancock.
Clearly, the viral picture has been edited.
