Fact Check: Viral post related to Ramesh Pokhriyal's daughter shared with communal twist

Quoting Rawat, users claim that the daughter of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and BJP leader Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has married a person from a different community.

The claim is False.

NewsMeter began its investigation by performing a keyword search, which led us to a report published by Amar Ujala on November 17, 2021.

According to the report, Harish Rawat attended two weddings in Dehradun on November 15, 2021. One was the marriage of Shreyashi, daughter of Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, and the other to the son of a man named Mohammad Naushad.

However, Rawat gave information about attending both the weddings in a single post on Facebook and in such a way that the dilemma spread. Rawat wrote in his post that he attended the marriage ceremony of Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank's daughter and Mohammad Naushad's son. From this, it appeared that Nishank's daughter Shreyashi was married to Mohammad Naushad's son though both were separate.

On further investigation, we found a similar post as the one going viral, by the official Twitter account of Harish Rawat on November 16, 2021.

We then found the posts of both the marriages that were attended and shared by Harish Rawat on November 16, 2021.

It is therefore evident that the claim is False. Ramesh Pokhriyal's daughter did not marry a guy from another community. In fact, the confusion prevailed after former CM Harish Rawat unintentionally shared images of two different images in the same post. However, a screenshot of the post which was later deleted by Harish Rawat is still being shared on social media giving it a communal angle.
