Fact Check: Viral video of damaged railway track is not from Bihar

Hyderabad: Social media users are sharing a video about gushing waters flowing underneath a railway track.

Users are claiming that due to the floods in Bihar, the part of the railway track between Ratanpur and Jamalpur railway stations was washed away.

Original claim: बिहार में बाढ़ का कहर जारी, रतनपुर व जमालपुर रेलवे स्टेशन के बीच रेलवे पटरी के नीचे का हिस्सा बहा

"Flood havoc continues in Bihar. Part of railway track shed between Ratanpur and Jamalpur railway station washed away(sic)," reads its English translation.

Fact check

The claim is false.

On reverse-searching the keyframes, we found a video uploaded on the YouTube channel of 'Bansal News' on August 4, 2021. At 1.33 minute, gushing water can be seen near the railway track


According to the report, due to heavy rains in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, ballast and soil under a railway track between Shivpuri-Mohana got washed away. Train movement was halted on the route.

We also found a report of 'Nai Duniya' published on August 4 in which a screenshot of the viral video has been used. The report said the incident occurred near Mohana.

Hence, it is clear that the video of the damaged railway track is not from Bihar. The incident occurred at Shivpuri in Mohana district of Madhya Pradesh.
