Fact Check: Viral video shared with false 'Love Jihad' angle

Hyderabad: CCTV footage of a girl being stabbed in a broad daylight is viral on social media.
Users claim that Gudda Ashraf Ali stabbed a Class VIII student when she protested against "love jihad" in Gopalganj, Bihar.
An inference is being made that the boy and the girl belong to different religious communities.
"Gopalganj (Bihar): A VIII standard girl was stabbed by 'Gudda Ashraf Ali' in broad daylight after she protested against Love Jihad. In just 13 seconds, he stabbed the girl 8 times," read the caption of the viral post.
The viral footage is going viral on Twitter.
Fact Check
The claim is False.
NewsMeter began its investigation by performing a keyword search which led us to a report published by Asia Net News on December 20, 2021. The report had published a few screen grabs that were similar to that of the viral CCTV footage.
"It is clearly visible in the CCTV footage that the guy is mercilessly attacking the girl student with a knife. He attacked her with a knife 8 times in 13 seconds. Later, when the crowd gathered, he fled. Police reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. The accused was arrested. The accused was identified as Gudda, son of Ashraf Ali, a resident of Pratappur village," the report said.
"These youth used to molest the girl students. The girls who reached the school complained about it to the teachers. When the girl was returning back home with her friends, one of the miscreants stabbed her with a knife. The friends of the injured student informed her family. By the time the family members of the girl reached, the miscreants fled. The family members then took the girl to the Sadar Hospital for treatment," ABP News reported on December 19, 2021.
The incident was also reported by various mainstream media including Dainik Bhaskar, Amar Ujala, Bhilai Times, and TV9 Hindi.
The family members of the student complained to the parents of the accused several times regarding molestation, but to no avail. On the day of the incident, Gudda once again molested the girl for which she tried to protest.
However, nowhere did the reports mention any angle of 'Love Jihad'. Nor did the reports mention that the accused and the victim belonged to different communities.
It is therefore evident that the claim is False. The incident of molestation by ruffians is being linked to 'Love Jihad'.
