Hyderabad: A post has been going viral on social media claiming that Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan was offered the role of Sita in the film 'Sita - The Incarnation', directed by Alaukik Desai.

According to the post, Kareena had demanded Rs. 12 crore to play the role. Since then, people have been venting their anger on social media. The hashtag #BoycottKareenaKapoorKhan has been trending in India and people are also making memes of the actor.

The claim is false.
NewsMeter searched for reports related to the claim with the help of keywords. We came across several media reports from 'Tribune', 'Pink villa', 'India Times', 'News18' and many more. These reports stated that Kareena has been trolled for demanding Rs. 12 crore for the role of Sita. After these news articles, the hashtag #Boycottkareenakapoorkhan started trending on social media.
However, we found a report by Spotboye that quoted the writer and the director of the film. According to the report, veteran writer K. Vijayendra Prasad denied the report emphatically. "No no no," was his reply.
While he didn't say anything more on-record, another source close to the project revealed, "Kareena is not suited to the part at all. It must have suited some marketing brains somewhere to suggest she's playing Sita as her husband (Saif Ali Khan) is playing Ravan in another project. Also, the hefty fee that she is supposed to have asked for a role that she has not been offered, sounds impressive but far-fetched in this day and age of an economic recession. Maybe Kareena should offer 12 crores to the producers for the privilege of playing Sita?"
We then found an Instagram post by Alaukik Desai and team. The post clearly stated that they are still in the pre-production stage and the rumor about the team approaching Kareena Kapoor Khan for the role of Sita is "nothing but a whiff of the thin air".
The post was shared with the caption, "Let this be known that anything coming from any source of media that is not our official page is nothing but a rumor."
The claim that Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan was offered the role of Sita in the upcoming film 'Sita - The Incarnation' is false. The film's team has said the movie is in the pre-production stage and Kareena was not approached for the role. Therefore, it is clear that she did not demand for Rs. 12 crores to play the role.
