Hyderabad: An image of a news bulletin is widely being shared on social media.

The viral news bulletin reads, "BREAKING NEWS- Akhilesh will change the name of Ayodhya."


Users claim that Akhilesh Yadav has promised to change the name of Ayodhya when he comes to power in Uttar Pradesh.




Fact Check

The claim is False.

NewsMeter began its investigation by performing a keyword search, which led us to a longer version of a video uploaded on the YouTube channel of Republic Bharat aired on November 27, 2021.

"Yogi's attack on Akhilesh Yadav. He said if Akhilesh comes to power, the name of Ayodhya will be changed," reads the thumbnail.

In the video, the anchor says CM Yogi's big attack on Akhilesh Yadav. "If SP leader comes to power, he will change the name of Ayodhya and Prayagraj," the anchor adds.

The team found the visuals similar to the viral image in the video at around 0: 17 seconds.


The team found an interview of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with Republic World on November 27, 2021. Yogi said that if Akhilesh comes to power in UP, he can change the name of Ayodhya and Prayagraj. He can be heard saying in the video at 1:58 seconds.


The entire interview of the chief minister was also published on the website of Republic world on November 27, 2021. "Yogi Adityanath in an exclusive conversation with Republic talked about the opposition's strategy and slammed Akhilesh Yadav ahead of Uttar Pradesh elections," reads the report.

The team further searched if this statement was published on any of the social media handles of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav or the party. However, the team did not find any such statement given by Akhilesh Yadav.
