HYDERABAD: A WhatsApp forward carries an image of GMT News and TV Networks on the possibility of Telangana lockdown being extended till June 7.

Along with this, WhatsApp users claim that from June 1 to 4 the relaxation period will be from 6 am to 1 pm. From June 5 onwards, it will be from 6 am to 5 pm.

FACT CHECK:

While there is speculation that the lockdown might be extended, as of now there is no official confirmation. Few media reports claim that the lockdown might be extended till June 7, while others speculate that the lockdown might be extended till June 10. It is pertinent to note that the next cabinet meeting headed by Chief Minister K ChandraShekar Rao is scheduled to be held on May 30th. Among the many subjects, further extension of the lockdown will be discussed.

The state government may extend the lockdown period if people fail to follow the curbs. However, no official confirmation has been made. The cabinet meeting will be held on May 30 to decide on the extension. Until then, rumors of lockdown extension and change in relaxation periods should not be trusted.

Furthermore, GMT News and TV Networks clarified that the page has not published such a notice. The clarification message reads, "This information has not been published by `GMT news & TV networks'. So, please do not believe fake information & do not share it further".

Evidently, it is clear that the viral message is fake. No official announcement has been made on the lockdown extension and on change in relaxation periods.
