HYDERABAD: On February 14, 2021, Journalist and Global Opinion Writer at Washington Post Rana Ayyub tweeted that Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is a man without any beliefs and is devoid of ethical or moral concerns towards society and further said that he is not her hero.

To this tweet, a screenshot of a reply purportedly by Sachin Tendulkar is doing the rounds on social media.

Many people tweeted the image and showed their support to Tendulkar. (archive)

However, NewsMeter found out that this reply was made by an imposter account.

FACT CHECK:

We noticed that the reply to Ayyub's tweet was made from an account with the user id '@Sachin_rts' but the official account of Tendulkar is @sachin_rt. This indicates that the reply was made by an imposter account.

Secondly, we searched for the imposter account and found that it had been suspended by Twitter for violating Twitter rules. https://twitter.com/sachin_rts

Ayyub now has changed the settings of the reply section on the tweet and only people followed by her or mentioned in the tweet can reply.

Evidently, the reply to Ayuub's tweet was sent by an imposter.
