The survey claims that BJP will win 130-142 seats, Congress will win 58-66 seats, Janata Dal (Secular)will win 22-29 seats, and predicts 1-3 seats for others. The viral posts also carry a BBC link.
The Assembly elections in Karnataka will be held on 10 May, and the results will be declared on 13 May.
Fact Check
NewsMeter found that the BBC, in a 2018 tweet, clarified that it does not conduct pre-election surveys in India.
On checking the link, we found that it leads to the Karnataka news on the BBC Hindi website. It shows various news on Karnataka, including on the upcoming Assembly election, but did not show any survey.
We further checked the BBC India website and social media handles but found no such survey.
We then came across a 2018 tweet by the BBC dismissing a similar survey on the 2018 Karnataka Assembly polls. It categorically said that BBC does not commission pre-election surveys in India.
From this, we conclude that no survey was conducted by BBC predicting a majority for the BJP in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections. Hence, the claim is false.
