Hyderabad: Several social media users are sharing condolence posts over the alleged death of Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.

Fact Check

NewsMeter found the claim to be fake as Manipur Chief Minister is safe and alive.

We first noticed that the viral post was uploaded on 4 May 2023. We started our investigation by performing a search but could not find any reports about Mr. Singh’s death.

It should be noted that his death would definitely have caught media attention.

On the contrary, we found a media report by The Times of India titled “Manipur violence: CM Biren Singh holds all-party meeting” from 6 May that said the Manipur CM was holding an all-party meeting on Saturday in the wake of the violence in the state. Parties, including Congress, NPF, NPP,CPI, AAP, and Shiv Sena, was set to attend the meeting, it added.

The same was reported by The Hindu and Hindustan Times.

It is evident that Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh is safe and alive. The death rumours are only because of the recent violence and riots in Manipur. Hence, the claim is false.
